Thank you for registering to participate in the 2017 Muskegon AED Scavenger Hunt. Your efforts will help ensure a safer community. Please read below for official rules and important information. 

There are 1.2 million AEDs in public use across the U.S. and 180,000 more are installed each year. Often the public cannot locate these AEDs. Participants will assist emergency responders by reporting the locations of AEDs across the Muskegon County region. We want to know where as many AEDs are located as possible so our 9-1-1 centers can advise callers if there is an AED nearby. The idea of the hunt is to raise awareness about AEDs and CPR training, and build a database of AED locations. There is a strong correlation between the time from collapse due to cardiac arrest, defibrillation and survival. More than half of all patients defibrillated in less than 3 minutes will survive, compared to just 1 in 5 defibrillated after 10 minutes, which is often how long it takes for EMS to be called, respond and deliver the life-saving shock. So having a publicly accessible AED could truly mean the difference between life and death.

 

Official Rules

1. To participate in the contest, individuals or teams should complete the free registration online at http://www.wmrmcc.org/AED-REGISTRY.

2. The contest starts Tuesday, August 1st and runs through August 31st.

3. When you locate an AED, report your Team Name along with a brief description of it, inlcuding the address, the AED location within the building, and whether the device appears to be ready for use by general public (e.g. is AED accessible) on the contest Facebook page (WMRMC) or by email to muskegonaedregistry@gmail.com. Pictures of the AED are encouraged, but not required. 

4. AEDs inside hospitals and at public safety departments do not count (e.g. fire and police departments).

5. Submissions will only be accepted for AEDs found within Muskegon County. 

6. To count towards prize award, must be the first individual/team to report location of AED.

7. The hunt should be limited to locations such as public buildings and private businesses (e.g., gyms, shopping malls, golf courses, etc.). Participants should NOT enter private property without permission. 

8. Public safety personnel may participate, but are not eligible for prizes. 

9. Winners will be listed on the contest website at wmrmcc.org/MCA/Muskegon/AED-REGISTRY and will be notified by September 15.
